HISTORY OF THE BARKEL IMPORTED STRAINS.
In 1989, Sid Barkel of Barkel Brothers ENGLAND and brother to Jack Barkel-South Africa, sent six pairs of his best Champion Stock pigeons to South Africa.
These birds had bred and raced in the great and mighty Up North Combine in the North East of England. To part with these birds other than to his own brother would have been an impossibility, and so some of the best Busschaerts-Janssens and Andre van Bruaene ever to come to South Africa, arrived in Potchefstroom, where Jack still resides to this day 13 years later. These birds have been responsible for winner after winner in both the Northern and Southern hemisphere. Jack a well known pigeon iridologist whose services on the subject are sought in many parts of the pigeon world, has developed these families pure for the last 13 years, reproducing the originals as if they had been cloned. See his eye sign video " A Theory On Eye Sign " produced while on tour in Missouri, USA. The breeding has been so selective that there are very few rejects, which allows us to offer a guarantee that if a purchased bird does not produce as expected, it will be replaced free of charge excluding transport fees. These birds have been developed to win from 200 to 1000 kilometres. One hen winning the shortest and longest race in the one season. Many club federation and union wins reported every year. One South African travelled to England to buy this progeny, only to be told that the original stock birds were sitting not one and a half hours by car from his home. They win for the professional and novices alike.
Three families of Busschaerts are : No 1. Son of the famous Mealy Cock Pluto. No 2. Dr Jeff Horns Grizzle Cock and a daughter of his famous Charter Flight. No 3. The famous Cheque Cock " The Cheltenham Cock" a flying ace and prolific breeder of winners, producing the best pigeon Jack feels he ever owned.
The Opal Janssen's, are bred down from Bob Pickering's "Scalie Bange" and "Cleopatra" also included was a daughter of Albert Tarlton's famous "Roby Cock" These magnificent looking birds are also winning in the show pen and have proved to be flying machines for many South African fanciers.
The Van Bruaene's, are down from an imported son of Andre Van Bruaene's "MARATHON" full brother to Barcelona II and the only son to come to South Africa. You cannot get closer than these to the pigeons that made world history.
